Jennifer Davis is the creative mind behind smARTStudio, 678 Payne Ave. in Akron. A former art teacher in the Akron area public schools, Jennifer holds art workshops for ages 5 to 75 and beyond. In addition, Jennifer is involved in Love Across Akron, an exciting local initiative that's part of Love Across the USA, conceived by international crochet artist Olek. The result of this project will be a huge crocheted mural on the side of downtown Akron's Civic Theatre. But to realize their community-minded goal, the project organizers need donations to match a grant from the Knight Foundation. To donate, please go to Give.MiamiFoundation.org/GiveNow by March 1. The Miami Foundation is a sister organization to the Knight Foundation.
The organizers also are asking for 100 to 150 individuals to make squares that ultimately will become part of the mural in May of this year. You don't even have to know how to crochet to participate. The mural will be put together by Olek, who also is doing similar projects in other cities. Akron's is the only one in Ohio. To donate your time, visit harpsandthistles.com/blogs/events.
